About

Welcome to 8-Stones.com. My name is Terry Crowell and I am a family man living in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I have two daughters (Peige, Clarks Harbour, NS and Billie, Fort Saskatchewan, AB), two step-daughters (Natasha and Courtney, Halifax, NS), two step-sons (Scott and Bradley, Halifax, NS), three grand-children (Lexus, Parker and Savanah) and of course I can not forget Barb, my greatest supporter and better half.

My photographic journey began when I was young but I did not realize it. I remember at the age of about eight or nine going to my great aunt’s and taking out the “shoe box” of photos (I think it was actually a candy box of some sort as she ran a canteen for many years). I just had to go through these photos when I visited. I also remember Mom having a subscription to “Life Magazine” and I would look at the wonderful images. Around this time I began to take photos with a 126 camera, after which I got a polariod camera. I found film and processing frustrating so my interest in photography waned.

Along came digital and like most people I bought a camera to capture memories of people and places. In 2004 I travelled to Hong Kong on business, so I purchased a 4mp point and shoot. My goal was to capture images and video to share with others and to remember the trip. Upon returning to Halifax and showing the images to family, friends and co-workers I was getting great compliments. Then one co-worker offered to buy a few prints and always the salesperson, I thought, “I can make some money at this”. The image to the right is the first print I ever sold. In Feb. 2005 I purchased my first DSLR and my passion for photography began.

The following is my photographic resume for the last five years.

Now many may wonder about the name 8-Stones.com. I was having difficulty thinking of a name and Barb suggested 8-Stones and I knew that was the right name to use. When I was in Hong Kong I bought Barb an engagement ring that had eight stones and since my photographic journey began due to that trip then the name should as well.
